Raphael Sanzio or commonly known by his first name Raphael, was an Italian painter and architect during the renaissance era. He was well known for his grace and perfection in his paintings. He lived from March 28 or April 6, 1489 – April 6, 1520 and although he died at the age of thirty-seven, a large number of his works can still be found in the Vatican. To name some of his works, we have the Holy Family with Madonna of the Veil, Portrait of Perugino, hi Self-portrait, Christ Blessing, Madonna Terranova and so many more.
Another great Renaissance man is Michelangelo, a renowned sculptor, architect, poet and engineer. Said to be a contender to the title of archetypal Renaissance man along side his rival and fellow Italian, Leonardo da Vinci. His magnificent sculptures are still present today and to mention a few, we have the Statue of Davie, the Pieta, Madonna of the Steps, Battle of the Centaurs , Virgin and Child and many more. Although he was a magnificent sculpture, he was also known as a brilliant painter. His magnificent painting of the Sistine Chapel ceiling which consisted of 300 figures and the its center nine episodes from the Book of Genesis, divided into three groups: God’s Creation of the Earth; God’s Creation of Humankind and their fall from God’s grace; and lastly, the state of Humanity as represented by Noah and his family.
Lastly, we have Leonardo da Vinci who was a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer. He has been often described as the archetype Renaissance man whose infinite curiosity was equaled by his powers of invention. Leonardo’s works are known world wide and to mention some of them, we have The Last Supper, the Mona Lisa, The Adoration of the Magi, The Battle of Anghiari, The Virgin of the Rocks and so much more. Until now, Leonardo da Vinci is considered one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most talented man that has ever lived.
