Recently, there have been a great number of controversies regarding Renaissance paintings. During 21st of August, 1911, the Mona Lisa, created by an Italian painter, Leonardo da Vinci was stolen from Musée du Louvre and recovered two years later in an antique dealer’s office in Florence. The Prefect of Paris Police stated that the thief must have hid overnight after acting as a visitor. The next day, the museum would be closed to the public for maintenance which gave the thief the best opportunity to take the painting. This has labeled as The greatest art theft in history.
Another painting of Leonardo da Vinci, The Battle of Anghiari which is still believed to be hidden beneath later frescoes in the Salone dei Cinquesento or Hall of Five Hundred in the Palazzo Vecchio, Paris. A painting which is currently on display in the Lourve, Paris known as The Battle of Standard is said to be a copy of a copy of the original painting of Leonardo da Vinci.
